The Secret to Dieting?
I want to make it clear to new ClearDeep readers, that overall I admire “The Secret” DVD/book by Rhonda Byrne. Even if I did find the “inspired action” section a bit thin and unsubstantial. However, there is one portion of the book that I question as being based on sound conclusions:
Dieting and Weight Loss.
First, the author states that you should not focus on “losing weight”. This will only attract more of having to lose weight. If you are familiar with The Law of Attraction this makes sense. Focus on your perfect body. Do not focus on shedding pounds or the law of attraction will ensure that you always have pounds to lose.
Eventually, another idea based on the power of thought is presented and it doesn’t feel right:
“Food is not responsible for putting on weight. It is your “thought” that food is responsible for putting on weight.”
“Food cannot cause you to put on weight unless you think it can.”
Aha! So it is safe to eat all those Krispy Kremes after all…
I imagine from a totally purist point of view, this concept could be argued. I just don’t see any practical value in it. It has a kind of pedantic, narrow stance that will benefit little to none. It’s not surprising that this material did not make the final cut of the original DVD.
I recently wrote about polluting the outcome of your desires. This happens when you are unable to put aside conflicting feelings related to what you are trying to manifest. Can an overweight person in modern society ever really believe that there is no such thing as poor food choices?
In all fairness, this commentary is based on my own research, trial and error with the law of attraction. Rhonda Byrne claims she was able to reach her goal weight and even correct her vision using similar thoughts. If you take into consideration her ability to manifest a multi-million dollar business, maybe this is something you should review more carefully. As I’ve said from the beginning, ClearDeep is about finding ideas that WORK FOR YOU.
For today’s Point to Ponder, I offer an excerpt from James Allen’s, “As a Man Thinketh“. Although his ideas on dieting are in the same vein as those found in “The Secret”, it has distinguishing characteristics which seem more useful. It’s easier to see how this type of thinking could actually help someone break through their resistant thoughts:
Thought is the fountain of action, life and manifestation. Make the fountain pure and all will be pure. Change of diet will not help a man who will not change his thoughts. When a man makes his thoughts pure he no longer desires impure food. If you would perfect your body, guard your mind. If you would renew your body, beautify your mind.
